MARK ANDES ROCK DOCUMENTARY, “RUN RUN RUN” NOW IN PRODUCTION

Anticipated Release Date: April 2023

You hear the term bandied about more often than it should be. But how many rock musicians can honestly be viewed as “legendary” for the work they’ve done throughout their careers?

Ask virtually anyone in the music industry and they’ll certainly assign that title to MARK ANDES, the legendary classic rock bassist and band co-founder whose imprint has spanned six decades and counting, and who has played on more highly recognizable songs than you can imagine.

Now, Andes is the subject of an upcoming classic rock documentary currently in production called “Run Run Run,” which is scheduled to be released in April 2023.

Produced by Smart Content Films, the documentary covers Mark’s entire life and features in-depth interviews with the man himself as he revisits his roles with Canned Heat, Spirit, Jo Jo Gunne, Firefall, Heart, Stevie Nicks, Dan Fogelberg, and Ian McLagan’s Bump Band.

MARK ANDES

THE BACK STORY

Growing up in an entertainment industry family, Mark was around many film and television stars as a youth. His father, Keith Andes, was an actor with major roles on Broadway (with Lucille Ball), movies (with Marilyn Monroe), and in numerous prime-time TV shows including Star Trek and one of his own “This Man Dawson.”

Starting in the mid-Sixties in California when he was just out of high school, Mark Andes landed a gig with the recently formed Canned Heat, thanks to an introduction from Barret Hansen, better known as American broadcaster and novelty song afficionado Dr. Demento.

Within less than a year, though, he co-founded the rock/jazz/prog band “Spirit” along with guitarist Randy California, a teenage high school friend who had also played in one of Andes’ earlier bands called the Red Roosters. Randy and his family, including stepfather Ed “Cass” Cassidy who would become Spirit’s drummer, had returned to California from New York, where he (Randy) had played in a band with Jimmy James. James would shortly afterwards become known as Jimi Hendrix.

Mark, Randy, Cass, Jay Ferguson and John Locke would soon sign with Lou Adler’s Ode Records and would release four albums as Spirit, including “Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus” which is today regarded as one of rock’s finest albums.
